Making History

Welcome to PTSD Veterans Village: Where Compassion Builds Homes

At PTSD Veterans Village, we don’t just see a statistic; we see the brave faces of our nation’s heroes. Night after night, thousands of Veterans sleep on the unforgiving streets of America, a reality that hits even closer to home when we realize many are Women Veterans—some with their children beside them.

In the silence of the night, their sacrifices echo louder than any statistic could convey.

We invite you to be part of a movement that goes beyond the numbers, a movement where compassion builds homes and transforms lives. Join us in this journey of empathy, empowerment, and unwavering commitment to those who have selflessly served our nation.

SheNumbers: Unveiling Women Veterans' Realities

Understanding the Growing Concerns

Concerning Increase: While overall homelessness among veterans has decreased, homelessness among women veterans has increased significantly.

  • From 2020 to 2023, the number of homeless women veterans rose by nearly 24%, reaching 3,980.
  • Even more concerning, the number of unsheltered women veterans (living on the streets, in vehicles, etc.) jumped nearly 48% to 2,165 during the same period.

Proportion: Despite the rise, women veterans still make up a relatively small proportion of the total homeless veteran population (around 12%).

  • However, this number is expected to grow as women increasingly represent a larger share of all veterans (projected to be 18% by 2040).

Data Sources: These statistics come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

  • The most recent data available is from 2023.

Additional Information: It’s important to note that these statistics are just a snapshot and don’t capture the full complexity of the issue.

  • Women veterans face unique challenges that contribute to their higher rates of homelessness, such as military sexual trauma, childcare issues, and difficulty accessing VA services.
  • Several organizations are working to address homelessness among women veterans, including the VA, HUD, and non-profit groups.
